Venturing into the business world armed with some industry knowledge is a common starting point. However, pitfalls often arise when crafting a business plan without a comprehensive understanding of the industry. Being 100% honest- this is what happened to me. I took my oath in November 2022 to become a Pennsylvania Notary Public, but it has been over 2 years since I wrote my initial business plan.
So let’s explore some valuable lessons learned along the way.
· One notable misstep is underestimating the significance of a deep understanding of the notary world. The complexities and nuances of this field go beyond surface-level knowledge. Recognizing and addressing knowledge gaps is not just a good practice; it's essential for sustainable growth.
· A pivotal lesson learned on this journey is the importance of investing in personal growth and maintaining a positive environment. In a world saturated with information, finding the right resources is crucial. One such resource that reshaped the narrative is "Notary Business Talk" with Abraham Zamora. This podcast serves as a beacon, guiding notaries through the intricacies of the industry.
· Connecting with influential figures in the field has been transformative. Ronnie Mickle and Beth Hathoot from NotaryStars.com, in particular, stand out for their contributions to the notary community. Their insights and experiences have been invaluable in reshaping perspectives. NotaryStars provides notaries with the tools and support needed to navigate the industry successfully. Beth Hathoot's passion for inclusivity and bringing others along on the journey is evident within the platform. Ronnie’s realness is evident & his stories of his mistakes, wins and all in between support you on your journey. Best part of his online mentorship is the expertise I am building in marketing & websites; www.wix.com
· While there are positive platforms, the journey has also revealed the presence of negative influences on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Negative Facebook groups and YouTube influencers peddling a false experience can lead aspiring notaries astray. It's crucial to discern between genuine industry insights and misleading narratives.
· In the quest for knowledge, the NotaryStars Discussion Board proves to be a valuable asset. Here, individuals can ask questions, share experiences, and gain insights from a supportive community. Recently, the discussion board posed a thought-provoking question: "What are some things you wish you knew when starting out in the notary business?" This question opens the door for a wealth of shared experiences and wisdom, creating a collaborative environment for learning.
In conclusion, the notary business is a dynamic and evolving space. Acknowledging the mistakes made, investing in personal growth, and surrounding oneself with positivity are crucial steps toward success. As the notary journey continues, the lessons learned become stepping stones to a thriving and fulfilling career.
